The neighborhood
Garland grew on manufacturing, from Resistol hats to Kraft to wartime aircraft work, and the older neighborhoods were built for the people who worked those floors: single-story brick, flat lots, deep backyards, detached garages. North around Firewheel and east toward Lake Ray Hubbard, the builds get newer and bigger. Fifty-seven square miles means crossing Garland is a genuine drive, and it is still a local move.
That matters, because a local move across a city this size is exactly where a mileage line tends to appear on the final bill. Ours does not have one. One more thing worth knowing here: most of the city is served by Garland Power and Light, so power gets set up with the city rather than with a retail electricity plan, and that is better sorted the week before than the morning of.
