The neighborhood
The houses here went up when the streetcar did, and a great deal of the neighborhood still stands as built. Pier-and-beam bungalows sit up off the ground, so every piece of furniture starts with a run of porch steps. The doorways, hallways and stair turns inside were sized for the furniture of that era, not for a modern sectional.
We measure the tight turns before anything comes off the truck, and we pad door casings and porch rails on houses where the original woodwork cannot be patched over. Large pieces get taken apart rather than forced through. When the truck has to park farther down the block, we carry the difference and the quote does not move.
