The neighborhood
Oak Cliff sits on higher ground across the Trinity from downtown, and the streets show it. Blocks tilt, driveways are short and steep, and the front door is usually a flight of porch steps above the curb. Inside, the houses are close to a hundred years old: original hardwood, plaster walls and doorways cut narrower than anything built since.
So the padding goes on the house first.
