The neighborhood
Downtown, most homes between Pacific Coast Highway and Palm Avenue load from a rear alley, not from the street. Those alleys are single lane, shared with trash pickup and with every neighbor's garage door, and one 26-foot truck parked across the middle stops the whole block. We size the truck to the alley before the day rather than after, shuttle from the street with a smaller vehicle where the alley will not take a full body, and where the address really needs the curb we tell you which City of Huntington Beach parking permit to file and how far ahead, so the temporary tow-zone signs are up and the truck sits at your door instead of four streets away.
The west and south sides ask for a different kind of planning. Huntington Harbour sits on connected islands, so the approach is a bridge, a bend and a driveway that can back straight onto a channel, with no room to swing a trailer once you are committed. Seacliff and the gated 55+ communities in the south end will hold a loaded truck at the entry if the guard has no crew names on the list. And between the Fourth of July parade and the US Open of Surfing at the end of July, Main Street and long stretches of Pacific Coast Highway are effectively unusable for a moving truck on whole days, so we book those weeks around the closures rather than into them.
